Must try it! Been using some foam from a road case, but it's too stiff. Thanks!A sponge cut in half
OP, how does the new girl sound and play?
Plays great. If you ever get a chance to pick one up I highly recommend them.
The neck is really nice, a bit thinner than I was expecting but its still wide enough at the nut to not feel wimpy.
definitely on the heavier side, weighing in at 10.1 pounds.
The main thing I was surprised at was the quality of the pickups. I bought a set of Fender 63s in anticipation to have to swap them out, but the stock pickups sound amazing. They sound like a 62, but not like a Jamerson 62, like a Phil Lynott 62.(I EQ'd my amp flat and got a guitarist buddy to have a listen to make sure it wasn't just the rose coloured glasses talking.)
They have the reverse style vintage tuners which I wasn't expecting and threaded bridge saddles, 2 small details that I believe really make it feel legit.
If you're not adverse to the heavy weight, the other only real downfall for me is the finish. It's poly, but not even like modern poly. Its sprayed on really thinly as I noticed on a few chips it has, but not so thinly it will wear like nitro, just thin enough that slight bangs take a decent chunk out of the bass. However if you can look past those 2 small things, this bass really is ace.
Wow never knew the JV's could weigh that much.

I was just as surprised and then some. I'm not sure if its just mine or a general characteristic. I don't mind a heavier bass but, I once owned a tele that weighed 12 pounds and that was my limit![]()
