I just snagged this bad boy on the evil-bay. Has not shipped yet, so I can't comment on it yet. But it looks good.

This is technically the 2nd Smith I have purchased, but I will officially count it as my first (assuming it plays as good as it looks in the picture) because the first one I purchased, which was at a cheap price, had a dead truss rod, dead frets, and a bowed neck. Completely useless. You get what you pay for.

It has the newer preamp (with the switches) so I think it is a relatively recent bass. Smith does a couple of different neck-throughs, that is the more inexpensive version with the 3-piece maple neck (then you have a maple block over it on the back). Not as popular as the usual "Black Tiger" with 5-piece neck, but they are great basses if you like the Smith thing.

Yeah, the good thing about Smith basses (from what I can tell) is that regardless of the price tag, they have a consistent and instantly recognizable tone. So whether you spend $7K on a top-of-the-line Smith or $3.5K for a "cheaper" Smith, you're getting a Smith either way - and the tone is going to be just as killer!

True story:
I've always been a 4 stringer only, but 10 years ago, coming out of my punk phase, I worked with a church BL who had a 6 string Smith. I had vowed never to play 5 or more, but that 6er played like butter. Asymmetrical neck, the whole deal.
While I'll likely never own a Smith (because of my taste & needs), i'l always remember that 6 fondly

OP's Smith looks gorgeous!

Do you still have the "dead" one? If yes then i would be interested in trying to buy it.

To my taste, this is one of the best looking single-cut body shapes I've seen. The "hump" is not overdone (recently saw a new Spector single-cut and thought it was way over the top). Again, all things being subjective, I'd like this even more if the bass had a different top...or maybe I'm just not used to see single-cuts with that kind of finish.

...And congrats on the new bass, BTW!
