NBD: Kiesel B40 - Help me ID the body wood!

Picked it up less than 24 hours ago. This one sounds incredible! I didn't want to put it down in the store. No signs of being played much at all. Very excited to record with this one!

It has a strong mid range so I am thinking the body wood is Walnut, but I am not certain. It is a bit on the heavy side which is also indicative of Walnut. Thoughts? (Yes, I consulted the Google)

Planned enhancements:
D-tuner and I have a Schaller roller bridge that I might install. The sting spacing could stand to be a touch wider.


-Birth date: 11/1/15
-Carvin pre and alnico pickups
-5 piece Maple neck
-Rosewood board
-Luminay side markers

I'm not a wood expert so I won't bother guessing but you can send the serial to Carvin, they should have some information on the specs. Mind you, their serial number system is sub-par, to say the least, so they may only have the build date. It does look great though.

It looks like black limba to me if not walnut, but I'm no expert. Beautiful bass no matter the wood type.

I had a walnut Carvin PB 4, I'm almost positive your bass is black limba. Very nice!

Here is what Carvin has to say about Black Limba: "...tonally similar to Mahogany, but a little brighter with more clarity and more midrange emphasis. Heavier than Alder and can add up to a pound to an instrument..."

That pretty much describes this one. The clarity of each note is nothing short of impressive.

Now I have the urge to order a Black Limba body for my B50!

I say black limba. Don't think anything else they carry wood wise looks like that
