Whenever I find a short scale guitar that I like, I grab it to convert into a sub-short scale bass. I bought this Mitchell at Guitar Center over a year ago and it's been hanging on the wall since. I finally got to it a couple of weeks ago and brought it over to Eric's Guitar in Van Nuys, CA to convert (I actually have three more hanging in wait). I picked it up yesterday.
I provided the Gotoh tuners, nut, Gold Tone/La Bella MBLS 25" flatwound strings, bridge and tailpiece. When I first saw it, I immediately said they should have matched that headstock reveal design to the waist of the body, so I decided to have that done. That came out very well, but what really surprised me is how good it sounds as a bass, nice and deep tone coming from the stock guitar tuners. I had Eric by-pass the pickup switch so both are active all the time.
The guitar was on sale for $89, the parts were $105, the conversion was $280, $474 total.
