NBD - (Modified) Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass

Got this beauty from Thomann.de a few days ago. I was sincerely impressed by the quality and construction of the it. Everything was fitted tightly, the finish was amazing without a single flaw, the intonation was even spot on. The tone is amazing also. Overall a great purchase.

I actually used some of the money I got for selling my Fender American Deluxe Jazz bass to buy this, and I can't say that I'm regretting it.

I decided to do a few 'cosmetic' modifications to it:

- Wilkinson Cloverhead tuning machines(black) - perfect fit
- J-bass pickup cover
- Thumb rest
- Precision bridge cover
- Black string retainer/guide
- DR Black Beauties

The reason for choosing a P-bass bridge cover is that it leaves the bridge pickup open when I want to play close to the bridge for that funkalicious tone.

Adding the thumb rest near the neck gives me a second fingering position to get a meatier, fuller sound.

I also have a black control plate which I haven't added yet, I'll wait for black control knobs before I'll do that mod.

I'm already loving it, and the mods give it more of an personalized feeling(and it just looks badass).

The way the sunburst fades to black on the edges sets off the black furniture nicely. I love the look of the pickup cover, too, although they always get in my way.

The vintage Wilkinson Cloverhead tuning machines(black)
didn't fit my Squier Affinity head stock. I had to modify
the frames to get them to fit,

If it don't fit,,, FORCE IT!!!

Are those blocks real? Never seen a VM with that fb/color combo, let alone with the blocks, though I may just be forgetting/missing it. Beautiful bass though, loving the black and burst, if I had the $$$ I'd seriously consider copping your idea for my backup bass.

Yes, they're real. This particular color combo is a Musician's Friend (and GC?maybe?) FSR exclusive.

I finally got around and ordered black control knobs. Here's the result along with a black control plate and black PG screws.

The Wilkinsons were a perfect fit, other than having to make new holes for the mounting screws, only a minor issue.
