NBD! MTD Kingston Artist 5

So I needed a 5 string for a prog metal project I joined (2x 7-string guitars) After looking around and trying out a number of things, I decided that I would go for a 35" scale and 19mm spacing. I was slightly concerned about the bigger size until I actually tried one out. Turns out, I have big hands, so that setup feels incredibly natural to me.

I found this bass on eBay for cheap, in new condition, so I sprang for it (came with a warwick rockbag too). It feels GREAT! It's probably the punchiest bass I've ever played. It reminds me of my old ATK305 sonically but has more clarity overall. It's very piano-like with a pleasant amount of growl and output. The finish is more teal in person  but that's OK by me!

I'm going to swap out the stock pup with a Nordstrand MM 5.2. I may put in a series/parallel toggle and a different preamp eventually too ( thinking Aguilar OBP-3 ). As is it already sounds better than I expected! The MTD strings are surprisingly nice too, it's been a while since I've played on Nickel rounds. Here it is! :hyper:

Thanks! That one's an Aguilar S210, it's my bedroom rig. I have a GS410 that's more useful for shows.
I read some reviews that said that soundclips of the Nordstrand pup didn't do it justice. I suppose it's kind of a gamble. The stock pickup is just a hair mid-rangey, I've read that the MM 5.2 is more of a classic 'Ray tone.

Mmmhh, I guess it is a gamble then. I use DB210 by the way, because I didn't have money at the time to buy the db410. I'm going to get another DB210 so I can get a decent rig.

I'd be interested to hear how it'll end up sounding.

That's a beaut. Enjoy. I had 2 Kingston 5 strings for a while. The side dots were tiny and there are no dots on the board. Very difficult for me to play. I ended up putting stick on dots on the board. That worked well enough and looked ok Bob
