So I needed a 5 string for a prog metal project I joined (2x 7-string guitars) After looking around and trying out a number of things, I decided that I would go for a 35" scale and 19mm spacing. I was slightly concerned about the bigger size until I actually tried one out. Turns out, I have big hands, so that setup feels incredibly natural to me.
I found this bass on eBay for cheap, in new condition, so I sprang for it (came with a warwick rockbag too). It feels GREAT! It's probably the punchiest bass I've ever played. It reminds me of my old ATK305 sonically but has more clarity overall. It's very piano-like with a pleasant amount of growl and output. The finish is more teal in person
but that's OK by me!
I'm going to swap out the stock pup with a Nordstrand MM 5.2. I may put in a series/parallel toggle and a different preamp eventually too ( thinking Aguilar OBP-3 ). As is it already sounds better than I expected! The MTD strings are surprisingly nice too, it's been a while since I've played on Nickel rounds. Here it is!
