NBD: Mustang P/J

So, last week I had to take a couple days off of work to let a pulled hip muscle heal. I was out and about around town one of those days and happened to end up near GC and ended up sitting down with the new Mustang for what I think ended up being 20 or 30 minutes cus I loved the neck. I went home without it and told myself I didn't need it, then I ended up back there on sunday, with some gear I had no luck selling on the local used market in hand. With the 10% trade in discount and the store credit I got for the gear I paid very little cash for this bass.
So, this is my second Fender bass, my first being my modern player Jaguar. I really like the bigger frets on the mustang, the jag I have has the super low vintage style frets, the mustang however does have a few rough fret ends, they're not bad enough to make it hard to play and it's not too many but they are there. The three way switch does pop when I switch it. I have read people's reviews on this bass and seen people say that the sonic blue isn't true sonic blue, whatever it is I love the color of it. The neck is absolutely amazing, I am in love with playing this thing, I am not sure if it's a little rounder than my jag or if that's just an artifact of it being short scale, but it's not too chunky for me, feels really good in my hand. The relief was wacky upon bringing it home, like the truss rod hadn't been touched since it had been installed, I gave it a turn sunday afternoon and have let it sit a few days and was going to measure it again this afternoon when I get home from work. Since giving it it's first adjustment the stock strings have tightened up to closer to a more standard tension. I really quite like the stock pickups in it, which I had assumed would be the weak point in it. Overall I am extremely happy with it, it's a blast to play and once I have the neck relief dialed in and I have a chance to replace the stock strings it'll be a killer. The current plan is for the mustang to be my aggressive sounding roundwound bass and the jag with the area p/j set in it to be my vintage sounding flatwound bass. Considering that I mostly payed for it with gear that I didn't want anymore that I thought I was stuck with I don't feel like I could have gotten a better deal on a brand new bass, paid much less in cash than what they are going for used at this point.
Pics coming after work.

Just dropped a Dimarzio Model P I had sitting around into the mustang. I had thought that there was something wrong with the switch in my mustang and hum was bleeding through when the switch was set to P pickup only. But I was incorrect, Fender somehow produced a P pickup that makes as much noise as a single coil and stuck it in this bass. Using the P only I now get no hum and with the switch in the middle position it sounds like an amount of noise I am used to from a P/J set up. Need to mess with my amp settings some more to decide if I am totally convinced the Model P belongs in the mustang, but definitely determined the stock P pickup does not.

Just to be clear, this bass was really noisy in all switch positions before a pickup change, I feel like I've seen other people post about this issue, as well as people post positive reactions to the stock pickups. Just adding to this thread in case anyone's searching contemplating getting this bass. Still love how it plays and am very very happy with it, just think the stock pickups are kinda dodgy.

Thanks for the update. I was really interested in getting one until I played one in GC.

In addition to the standard substandard setup the electronics and switch were pretty noisy. So now I'm back on the fence.

Yeah, there is a documented thing with this bass where the switch is not working correctly cus it's aligned weird in the cavity and the sides of the switch touch the cavity, mine still makes an audible noise when changing switch positions but after opening up it no longer cuts in and out in any position. I still think it's a great bass, just has some issues to be aware of and I don't know if I would recommend paying full price for a new one, but would whole heartedly recommend getting one at a discount or used.

I have two of these basses and the first thing I did was change the switch out on both to a closed back type.
Next was installing La Bella low tension ss flats , can't put them down and gig them regularly( have had no noise issues with either one)
Congrats on getting an excellent bass!
