I’m usually playing a Lull, sometimes a Spector for certain situations...However for Something completely different I really like these basses.

To me one thing that makes G&L a G&L so to speak is MFD pickups. I’m usually a Nordstrand guy, but this is a different animal.

I have no idea why they’re not more popular in the hard rock and metal areas because there’s a certain grind these pick ups that really work for that style of music. With that being said it would work for anything.

I will also say that the “Big Chonk” have an excellent tone and a little bit different from a regular L-2500 with all that neck mass from the 19mm spacing. The sound is fuller sounding so-to-speak.

I got to try one and the first prototype when I was in California back in January and I was very impressed.

I’m not usually a fan of 19mm string spacing but this felt fine.

I never got why these didnt take off as well except for G&L not pushing their product and for some reason with some people the headstock design. Because as soon as you play a MFD you need one. I was blown away by the sound when I played a tribute so much I was sold on getting a US model unseen and untouched. The only other bass pickups sound wise Id would craze would be some Dingwall action. But for the cash even for a US model a MFD equipped bass is really hard to beat. Ive even toyed with putting MFDS in other bass and a spilt coil from G&L in my MIM P bass.

Hey Duke, what are you thoughts on the L series?
My G&L’s have been L1000, L2000, SB1, and my current two L2500. I have loved each one for different reasons. But the one common thing for me was I never used the active electronics as I felt they weee to over the top for what I do. So when I found all the wiring diagrams for the MFD pickups I modified both of mine to full passive with full coil tapping on both pickups. A simple modification by changing out two mini toggles to on/ on/ on switches. I did this 10 years ago and have never looked back.
what else would you like to know?
Duke

Congrats! Dayum, that looks so hot. Love the finish. I test drove one of these at a shop in LA a couple weeks ago. I have had L2500s in the past. I'm a smaller dude without very big mitts so I dunno if it would ultimately work for me, but as usual w US G&Ls, you pick the thing up and it just feels great. I agree about the MFDs--versatile as heck (a little challenging to tame at times) and would be excellent for an heavy music style.
