NBD - Sadowsky MetroExpress JJ 5 String Lined Fretless

Hi All,

Just took possession of this bass yesterday, an early Christmas gift to myself.

The bass came almost fully set up out of the box. I've had love hate relationships with fretless basses over the years but for the relatively modest investment, I'm hoping to make this a keeper. So far I'm pretty pleased.

It's a little on the heavy side, especially compared to my NYC. However, that's not a deal breaker. I'm staying with the stock preamp for now (no VTC), as I can tame the highs in other places in the signal chain. It feels like a very well put together bass and a good bang for the buck.

Off to go play it now.

Beautiful! I just got one in white myself. So far I'm very pleased and the stock electronics sound great.

Very nice. @Dr. Cheese has been singing the praises of these basses ever since he acquired one. His has a nice unlined ebony fingerboard I think. These look like a lot of bass for the money. It’s nice to have a quality Fretless at a great price.

The more I play this bass, the more I like it. Definitely has Sadowsky quality about it.

Just changed the strings to DR Pure Blues. I wanted something less zingy than the stock stainless strings. Also, for now I'm staying with the stock preamp. It works just fine.

For me to be at all competent on fretless, I need the lines. The bass is intonated well so my eyes and ears are doing okay at staying in tune. Takes practice though.

Thanks! Even with lines, intonation is never perfect, but I will take any help I can get!
