NBD: SBMM SUB Ray4

Got this new SUB bass today, looks like a Stingray and sounds like a Stingray and it weighs in at incredible 8,1 ibs !! Earlier I used too own a Musicman Sterling, but I never felt I got the "classic musicman tone" with that bass, this baby on the other hand, in a bandmix im pretty sure it will sound like a legit stingray, cant wait too try it live

Here are some poopy pics from my cellphone for obligatory purposes :P

Amazing basses for the price. I got the SB4 in the same color with the maple neck because it's smaller and lighter but they share the same electronics. Has anyone here determined whether these pickups are ceramic or alnico? In any case they are very high output.

i would imagine that by upgrading the electronics you can get pretty close to a stingray sound?

I just replaced the pre in mine and kept the original pickup, it sounds very similar to my 91 Musicman Stingray. I installed the Nordstand 2b-mm preamp, it really sounds like the original MM 2 band preamp, and cleans up the ratty performance of the original OEM preamp volume issues !! It now has a beautiful audio taper and response with the volume control, and the eq sounds killer, vintage classic Stingray !

Will a regular stingray guard fit these?

I don't think so, I was looking for one some time ago, and remember seeing it mentioned that the screw holes won't line up and it won't quite fit.

OP- Nice bass- they're a great bass for the money, one of the best deals around. Super powerful, I found that lowering the pickup as much as I could helped tame the pickup somewhat. I did this on all three of the Subs I had. Congrats!
