NBD: Spector Legend 4

I had a Spector previously and really loved it. It was a used one that I had found in a pawn shop. The only issue I had with it is that at higher volumes it had a pretty bad hum. I had checked out the grounding and re-soldered it, and then lined the cavity with the copper color metal tape. That mostly addressed the issue. Well I had come on hard times and had to sell some gear and the Spector at that time was sold.

I am happy to say that I just ordered the following Spector and I am really stoked to get it. It is 8.2 pounds which is good as I wanted one on the lighter side. I should be getting it Thursday or Friday. The following are pics of the exact bass.

I’ve had several Legends and loved the necks. They can be very nice basses if you get the right one. I had some issues with build quality on a couple of mine but it was taken care of by Spector. This was around the time they moved their production facility from Korea to Indonesia. This was ~10 years ago so I’m sure they’ve got all that sorted out.

Your bass looks gorgeous, btw.

Early this year I bought the NS Pulse 5, and the craftsmanship was easily up there with my Fender American Pro and Kiesel V59K. The only reason I sold it was because the 35” scale was something I thought I can easily overcome.

So here I am again shopping; I got my eye on the exact bass that you have but in blue!

Don't get me wrong. The fret dressing isn't bad, but for myself I decided to do some additional filing on the fret ends to make it a touch smoother.

I see. How’s the weight distribution? No neck dive?

That Tobacco Sunburst looks sweet. Reminds me of a EuroBolt 4.

I just noticed they recently changed the P pickup to a reverse P compared to the Legend Standards of 2019 and older which had a normal P orientation. Interesting.

It seems pretty evenly balanced to me. I had not noticed the reverse P.

Nice score! I assume this one doesn't have the hum issues? If it did, I assume you'd have heard it by now

No, thankfully it doesn't have the hum issue the other one had. I'm actually kind of impressed with the tonal variation I'm able to get from a 2 band preamp.

My Fender Rumble 100 combo has some tonal variation buttons that are fun to experiment with as well. Not too keen on the amps overdrive, but that's what pedals are for.

All in all it's a really good bass for the money.
