I received this a few weeks ago as part of my deal with Spector but hadn't posted it.
5 String Neck-Thru with Aguilar pickups and OBP-2 pre-amp. Plays and sounds great. I own 2 Alembic 5 string basses and a Fender Jazz V. I actually like the Spector better. One of the nicest 5 strings I've played.

What do you like about the Spector over the Alembics? I've owned a Distillate and a Series II. I sold off my bass gear about 10 years ago, but started playing again about a year ago. I picked up a 10 yr old Peavey Cirrus, but am now looking for my next bass, minus the Alembic price tag. I have been looking into Spector and your post came up in my search.

I would greatly appreciate any input that you could share with me. Thanks

The only Alembics I own are a couple of Epic basses so I can't speak to the differences in the higher priced Alembics such as the Distillate and the Series II. As far as the difference between the Epic and the Spector Legend 5 Neck-Thru is concerned, I like the feel of the Spector neck better. Tone wise, the Spector seems to have a slightly more bottom end. Even though the Legend is made in Korea, the Legend 5 Neck-Thru is carved from solid maple and features a figured maple top. The 5-string models come equipped with a set of Aguilar DCB humbuckers, an Aguilar OPB-2 circuit, a brass nut and professional grade hardware. The only negative is that the stock strings are terrible. Very bright sounding and they left my fingers leaving very dirty. Nice neck thru bass for under $2,000.

In the interest of full disclosure, I do have an artist cost deal with Spector and buy direct from them.

Thanks for your input. You are right, there is a notable difference between an Epic and a Distallate or Series II. I have always been more of a humbucker guy, but the versatility of Sims pups looks interesting. Do you have any experience with Sims pups?
