NBD: Squier CV 70s P-bass

Alright, alright, probably one of the more boring NBD threads. GC had these for $350 over the weekend so I finally have a P-bass. I usually play a G&L Kiloton Tribute (Irish Ale Red, the older heavy one with a swamp ash body). Love the G&L but this feels at least two pounds lighter and... Surf green. Sold.

Planning on replacing the electronics with maybe a Geezer set up. This definitely hums a lot more than some of my other basses. Keeping contact with the strings helps grounding but I'll probably just replace everything anyway. Also, the stock strings... are they crap on the Squiers? The E string has what seems like almost no tension. It rattles around and I can pull it out from the body way more than any of my other basses. Just strange. So probably going with flats again... even though I run flats everywhere and do kind of want a round would guitar somewhere.

Congrats man! For $350, that is an absolutley killer looking bass! I paid more for my last gig bag! A proper setup, a few months of breaking in, strings of choice, pickups if you feel you need them and you'll have a thumper and a keeper. I wouldn't mod anything until a setup. Great score.

Nice find. I'd definitely keep some rounds on it, but probably a new set since those current strings sound kinda dodgy! Those 70s P's have a bit of a more gnarly edge to their tone which I think would be enhanced by some round strings. I've only recently converted my P to having flats, but for years and years it was Rotosounds on there! Loved it, since the thump was still there when you turned the tone knob down a bit, but it had plenty of bite and edge to it when run flat out.
