Flats inbound for it. Other than the controls feeling like they probably won't make it through a single gig, I love it.

They’re not expensive , and sometimes can be a used bargain find. They weigh nothing , are really fun to play and can sound great. String choice and amp do factor in there , depending on what you want. My Longhorn completely altered my concept of just what it was the made a good bass. These were by design cheap. And playable. I’ve been playing mine now for close to twenty five years , and still can’t decide if it’s cool as heck or dog ugly.

… and I’m ok with that.

Congrats, OP!

Owned an original 1960's Dano Longhorn as well as a Jerry Jones. Such unique and thoroughly usable bass.
I had a 60's that was a great example of how shoddy some of them were constructed. Literally had crooked frets. Have had a Jerry Jones for about 20 years and that baby ain't going anywhere - that thing records as good as any bass I've ever owned.

I think when people talk about the "classic" or "iconic" basses--the Dano design is often left out. We talk of Fenders, Hofners, 'Rays, Rics, EB's, etc, but the humble Longhorn gets overlooked. There's really nothing else quite like them, but aside from appearance they're not really "quirky" at all--they have a totally solid, versatile, full sound (a good one does at least) that can "sit in the mix" as good as a Fender. And they've been used by many pros over the decades. I'd say a Hofner is far more quirky and is less versatile actually. That is all:cool:.
