NBD Steinberger Content

This happened ... Restored like new by Jeff Babicz. Here's the back (way back) story:

I saw the Police in NYC in 1979/1980 and it profoundly affected me. I saw them many times thereafter. It was the music I wanted to make. It exhilarated me. It inspired me.

In 1983 I decided I needed a Steinberger or a Spector. They were both new and exciting entries into the bass world. I had a friend in the music retail biz, and I got to meet both Ned Steinberger and Stuart Spector - both were interesting gentlemen and real innovators.

At around that time, Sting played both a Spector and a Steinberger. I wanted both. I couldn't afford either, but I ultimately bought the Spector. A friend bought a Steinberger, and I've coveted them since.

I admittedly let my love of playing and performing wane over the years in favor of family and career, but I'm recently invigorated.

Flash forward 35 years - I still own the Spector, and now I have the Steinberger.

Sorry for the yammering - I'm a little giddy.

I'd really like one of those, the Hohner copy I had wasn't a patch on the original.

Steinberger basses used to have headstocks, but then Ned saw this photo and the rest is history.

There was rumor of a 2018 40th Reunion Tour, but Sting recently said it's not going to happen. Too bad - It would have been awesome!

I couldn’t afford the L2 back in the 80’s, so i got the XP-2 in 1986, rock maple flying vee body with a carbon graphite neck. Same pups, electronics, and hardware as the L2. Still my #1 bass after all these years, though I swapped the body out for a more traditional shape. The new NS design Radius basses look incredible, though I’ve yet to see one in person. Nice Score!

I just bought a 1983 Steinberger L2, it came with Alembic active humbuckers and electronics (active EQ)
Original owner sold it to me with sales receipt and the original electronics/EMGs, gig bag.
Now I can sell my Cort headless L2 copy and Squier Modern Vintage Jazz bass. This L2 sounds so massive and is rock solid! I've wanted one for a long time.

I've always kept a Steinberger in my possession since 1984. My current XL2 and a custom bodied "Bill Wilkat" with my XM2 neck, pickups and hardware. The big clean bass that it provides, at times is intoxicating to me. Can't live without it.
