NBD -> VM-Jaguar

Played one at my GC this morning for about 10 minutes. Very nice addition to the Squier line. The one I tried was about 9 pounds.

The P Bass sound is really, really good. I would probably just use it as a P Bass. :)

Not sure about the notched tone controls, but I'm sure I would get used to them.

Not as "refined" or "smooth" as my MIJ Jag, but with a P sound like these have, who cares? For $300, these are a steal.

Got some numbers for you on the VM-Jaguar:

Weight= 8.0 lbs (Deluxe Jazz= 9½lbs, VM-J= 9½lbs, Affinity P= 8½lbs, SR500= 8 lbs)

Thickness= 1 9/16"
(40MM, or about the same as all my other Fender/Squiers

Overall length= 46½" (½" longer than my Deluxe Jazz!)

Body meets neck @ the 16th fret

Played it a while today after I cut some more firewood first, and I can say that the sound is absolutely great!

The P p'up is more powerful that I originally thought (hotter?) but still Motown-funky.

The J p'up cuts like a laser and can really get your attention fast!

When I blend them, I like to have the P on full bass and the J on full treble and just take both volume pots to the max. The tone is unbelievable and really honks out for attention.

If it has any head-dive problems I can't find them - nowhere near as much as my VM-J or my Affinity P.

Here's the 'under-the-hood' pixs:::

I found a little rubbing compound in the cavity, but it wiped right out.

Some of the wore is cloth wrapped and some is vinyl clad - not quite 100% cloth-type - like the VM-Jazz, but nice to see they went to the NOS-style of wires in it anyway.

All solder joints are bright and shiny and no flux or spatter anywhere either, nor is anything burnt.

The jack prongs are really tought and they may be just fine for years to come yet. We'll see.

Nothing loose or crimped or bent anywhere.

I think they put the control plate on a little early as there's a small outline indentation from it's outer diameter in the top of the finish around it though - no biggie as it gets covered up. .
