I have my very first fretless finally, always wanted one but didn't want to spend a lot on one in case it wasn't for me. It is an ESP LTD Fretless, first impression was what a nice looking bass. I have a thing for spalted maple, and this sure looks nice. It was set up bad as always, every time i get a bass i have to go through it and set it up. It sound the same as my fretted basses, to much relief, action up to high. So i go to work on it and straightened the neck and lowered the action and finally started to get some Mwah going on. I had a set of LaBella LTF laying around i pulled off another bass and put them on the fretless and wow it sound really nice and felt really nice to play. So I messed around playing it about 3hrs or so and thought about things i read about fretless playing. Things that came to mind other than the setup was playing close to neck and DR SunBeam round wounds. I had a set of SunBeams laying around and decided to put them on to see what the hype was all about. After doing all these things, this bass sounds amazing and has some crazy Mwah to it. Amazing what the right set up and strings will do for a bass. Very nice bass for the price. Only bad thing i see about this bass is that it has stickers on the pickups which i dont see staying on or lasting very long. Other than that, it sounds, looks and plays very nice.
