So I stopped by my local GC, today, to return a Kala UBass (delivered yesterday)

... saw a Fender short scale hiding in the corner... Modern Player (30") with P/J pu's... it jumped out at me... jumped into my car... came home with me! never saw these before...

Yup... only problem is that the 'base' of the bridge is almost 1/4" thick... might not have enough height with a 'bent bridge'... the weight is fine for me

The bridge is cool. I'm always kinda hesitant to buy a short scale cuz I'm afraid I'll get used to it and won't want to go back. Are the strings a little floppier?

Yes- but the stock D'Addarios (Prosteels- I think) on new Fenders are always floppy & clanky- to me. I ordered a set of Labella nickel rounds... that will help. This is my third short scale... like with any bass- takes awhile to find the right string match! (I play VERY heavy)

Sorry to say- this bass was returned today... drew the saddles, almost, all the way back to the end of the bridge- was still 'sharp' (quite a bit)... not sure if it was just this one or a design flaw... it was suggested that I just get it 'close'... I always set intonation with a strobe tuner- 'close' doesn't work for me
