I never buy new basses or low end models but I got this demo from sweetwater as a gift for a family member I've been giving lessons to. She's learning fast but enjoys the shorty at her school more than the one on loan from me.
Well this shorty is pretty amazing with it's great feeling frets, neck, balance and angry sounding single coil pickups. I can't seem to put it down and may need to buy another for myself.

Makes sense the middle both pickups together has the best sounding tone.

If my local gc had them in stock would have probably got that instead of my epi eb0. Love both their necks. But was a year after before came across a gretsch shorty.

I tried this bass in a shop a few weeks ago and was amazed by the big tone issued by that small thing. Those Gretsch guitars are simply amazing, I have a thinline G2622 guitar that absolutely kills it.

Interestingly the old single pickup version is also smaller, the bridge is closer to the end of the body and I think it’s more ergonomic (fewer accessible frets tho)

I'm not being paid to say this but sweetwater has a few demo models available and fender was adding in a 10% discount as well if anybody is interested... it was about $340 out the door with a gig bag and strap.
