NCAA College Basketball

If Duke had a bit of a deeper bench, and a little more variety to their game, they could have had the edge on UNC today.

I find Duke is strong at controlling the pace of the game, and making teams play Duke's game. Though they do lack a bit of inside presence. A shooting team can/will only make it so far. As shown in the game today, UNC just brought it to them and wore them down. Duke's legs were so tired that they could barely get shots to the rim.

And they relied far too much on Scheyer, Singlair and Henderson. They were beat by the end of the game. (why was Paulus on the bench for the whole second half?)

What a good game though, both are amazing teams. Cant wait for the madness to begin :)

Also, Go Deeks, beat Clemson!

Awesome game, but you are right, duke was done 4 minutes before game was.

completely done, their legs were finished
me, my dad and grandfather all called it at halftime, that UNC was going to come out running and put Duke under

they didnt quite get the lead they would have wanted right off the bat, but they got just far enough ahead that Duke couldnt keep up

i still say the Duke had a chance, if Coach K had used the bench a little more. they needed some fresh legs (aka Paulus, who can handle the ball, which would give Scheyer a break) and needed to switch up theyre game a bit and start bringing it to them.

UNC was just playing Duke's slow game biding their time, Duke got caught up in their own rhythm.

im a big Duke fan (pretty much an ACC fan overall) but i dont think they have enough versatility in their game right now to make it all the way. they have good ball handlers (scheyer and paulus) a great shooter (Singlair) and one versatile player (henderson) but its not enough to win them a championship. not against teams like Wake or UNC (amongst others) with a deep bench and lots of versatility.

again, cant wait for march madness.:hyper:

ps: glad wake beat clemson. clutch game for them to win. that should really help them get a good seed for the tournament

Or not.....I'm not a big Pitt fan, but how about those Panthers knocking you guys off when you're #1 for the second time this season! Must be frustrating.

Makes it interesting, for sure. Pittsburgh's two wins account for two-thirds of UConn's losses.

not a great season for the gators. getting sweeped by tennessee and splitting with a not-so-good kentucky. :hmm:

we better turn it around for the sec conference tournament. if we sneak into the ncaa tournament through the back-door, then the season won't be a total loss. if not, well, i hope calathes decides he isn't NBA-ready just yet.
I know what you mean, Brad. I know we're spoiled by the incredible success of the '04s, but I'm not getting a great feeling from these guys, and it's not just talent. I'd love to see more toughness, see them finish games better. I think we're definitely in if we win the first two games of the SEC tournament, and possibly in if we win one.

Has Duke had a quality big man since Carlos Boozer? All I see out there are ultra-skinny, Dunleavy-type forwards. Seems like that's their biggest problem every year lately.

Yep, the Gators are on the bubble. What a bummer too. Walter must really be feeling strange after winning those two titles and now it looks like we may not even get in unless we look good in our tourney.

The only REAL big man they have is Zuebeck (sp?) but he seems to be on and off. During the UNC game he seemed to have hands and feet made of rock.

Duke isnt a SHORT team, they average well over 6 foot
but they dont have low post players and they dont play a big game.

Theyre a shooting team for the most part, and shooting teams can rarely make it through a whole season (let alone a tournament like march madness).

They arent a bad team by any means, obviously, they've been in the top 10 nearly all year, but they definitely not as versatile as they need to be (not to sound like im beating a dead horse). I doubt theyll be able to make it all the way to the final 4.

Hopefully in the years to come theyll find some bigger players to round up the squad. Cause they are and always will be a great team.

What a week of upsets all across the board.

This is going to make tonights selection show quite interesting. A couple of big teams lost their tournaments (some really early on) which could possibly knock them to lower rankings, and quite a few lower ranked teams won their conferences, which puts them in contention.

It will definitely be interesting to see who gets picked and who doesnt as well as how the teams get ranked and divided.

I know we can debate their choices, but regardless, everyone can agree that this years March Madness with be MAD indeed.
