Hmm, just thinking about another thread where Traynor cabs were being discussed, and it was determined that all of their amp ratings were program not RMS. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know if that 200w rating is RMS?

That’s incorrect. It’s much more complex than that. See: SVT 300w head + 810 fridge (that combination will need to be pushed VERY hard and will be excruciatingly loud when it's anything but clean IME).

The issue IME comes down to total cab sensitivity and an amp’s clean power output. A very sensitive cab that can produce lots of volume with a small amount of power can do a ton of clean volume with a very small amount of watts.

The issue is, if the YBA200 is working correctly (and if its 200w rating is realistic), if those two 15s are able to generate enough volume per the YBA200s clean rating – this doesn’t have much to do with the cabs’ RMS rating. Start pushing the head past its comfort zone, and it may start distorting nicely, or not nicely.

For an example my cabs are rated at 350W. I feed them up to 500W each from my power amp. Using two of the cabinets I never get even close to that power but each cabinet is very well controlled. Yes you have to use your ears and listen for any signs of distress but I have never noticed any.

Go away, you're spreading misinformation that is going to have people blowing speakers left and right. Cabs don't "demand" anything, they take (or dont) what is fed from the head.

Poppy cock. I run a 90 watt tube head into my 215 (~600 watts @4 ohms) and have run that same head into a pair of 210AVs (200 watts @8 ohms each) and get GLORIOUS tone. In this case I think it is a miss match between the amp and cab EQ curves, the HLFs are ported for more lows, and that sucks up a LOT of power to get them to speak cleanly. I had an Avatar Neo 210 that was a terrible match to my EBS head for just that reason. It was fart city. The 210AVs are sealed, and my 215 is an older Peavey, which was designed for 4 strings, not 5s and big lows.

OP- if you like the Ampeg 410HE, you just need an 810 to get the same sound just louder. They have a forward midrange that I find any of the HLF designs just don;t have. Or you could spin it as the HLFs having big lows the sealed cabs don;t have, but the result for me has always been the same.

I tried the 410HE that I like this week and couldn't get the volume\tone I usually do. This leads me to believe the tubes are going in my Traynor. If that's the case, I still haven't really heard what the Traynor sounds like with the PF cabs.

Thats fair. I thought I had broken my brand new EBS head when I plugged it into my 210 and it sounded like dog farts. It just ended up being the cab. Good luck!

Yesterday I rented a Traynor YBA200-2(identical to mine) from Long and McQuade to test for sure what the issue here is. The rental Traynor through the two PF-115LFs sounded AMAZING last night at rehearsal! Huge, deep sound with lots of growling mids. Took my Swollen Pickle and Green Rhino without even flinching. No farts at all! So now I'm positive I just need new tubes and that I did in fact make the right choice in cabs.
