Hello guys, I have this jazz bass copy and I'm about to replace the neck to a precision bass neck. so I bought an allpart's precision neck to my bass, but I'm facing a problem. The original jb neck is 21 frets while the pbass one is only 20 frets. The position of the 20th fret of the pbass is placed a little bit down compared to the 20th fret of the jazz bass. Bellow a image to help you guys to understand it. My question is , can I have problems with intonation? What about I place the bridge a little bit down too? The square on the body represents the bridge. I've used MS Paint to draw that thing you guys may laught later I went to a luthier but this guys is asking my kidney to do this job I'm sure I can do it if I'm ok with the positions. Thanks for the help.
You did not mention the scale length of the bass neck. If it is 34", place the bridge saddles 17" from the 12th fret.
at all's site there's no reference about the scale but it's the same scale as my MIM precision bass I just checked that. this is the neck http://www.allparts.com/store/necks-bass-necks-prf,Product.asp How to I measure the 12th fret to the bridge saddles? Thanks guys for the help.
I'm pretty sure those necks just have the fingerboard extended beyond the neck heel for the 21st fret. That puts the heel in the same spot as a 20-fret neck.
Why not make a wood block that fits in the pocket to compensate for the shorter neck? I have done it before and it worked great. Unless of course what John said is true.
I don't think the would sell a neck as a "licensed by Fender direct replacement" unless it is as I described. It should bolt right up --no problem.
I have an all parts jazz neck on a fender jazz body. It bolted right up with no problems of any kind. IMO, you should have no issues with their product.
The 21 fret neck's fingerboard extends past the end of the neck shaft while the 20 fret neck's fingerboard stops at the end of the neck shaft. When attached to the body the 12th fret (center of the scale length) will be in the same place. End of story. -m
