Neck Shaving?

Hey, I want to buy a new bass, and I really like the Fender Jazz 70 RI, but I find the neck too thick (or maybe my hands are just to small). But I was wondering where I would take it if I were to get one to get the neck shaved (I'm talking about like what Geddy did to his, but I'm not sure if I'd want it that small).
I don't think a music store would do it, so I would have to take it to a luthier, and I know that prices may vary for different places, but this is a question for Canadians that live in the Belleville/Kingston area - Where is a good luthier around here?

Also, another question.. Is this a major thing? Or is it just as simple as taking some sand paper (maybe not literally) to the neck.

I've lost count of the number of necks I've shaved/reprofiled. It's not trvial task since essentially the neck is being treated as a blank, re-carved to it's final proportions and then finished.

Depending on the extent of the work it may require the use of tools such as a spokeshave, files, scrapers, straight edges, elbow grease, maybe a drum sander, and yes, even sandpaper.

Price varies greatly. Check out some aftermarket companies such as Warmoth, USA Custom Guitar, Allparts, and ebay for new and used necks.

BTW, I wouldn't recommend reprofiling an expensive neck as a project for a novice. If you want to learn to do it yourself get a cheap neck and practice on that.
