Neck swap or.....

Hi everybody,

Been along while since ive been on TB but im glad to see it hasnt changed during my leave :cool:, but I come to you all today to ask about doing a neck swap on this junker silvertone i have. For being a cheapo starter guitar it has good sound problem is i have a hard time playing on long scale necks, while i already have a short scale viola honfer knock-off bass which i love but it needs new pick ups (even with a 100w amp cranked as high as it will go, my buddy's 5w mini guitar amp overpowers it and its only with that bass). That being said im not sure which would be cheaper 1. do the neck swap on the silvertone 2. get new pickups on my old viola bass or 3. buy a used guitar with a short scale from somewhere. Money is a big factor here as between school and racing money is tight. So maybe someone could shed some light on me here and help me out. Thanks everyone and it great to be back!

Id say the swap pups was better route for a couple reasons. First, its the easiest and most productive imo way to really improve an otherwise loved bass. 2nd. Swapping a short scale neck on long scale bass isnt as easy as just swap necks. Bridge may have to be moved to etc. Also theres the question of wether or not the neck would fit the neck pocket of other bass well. If it doesnt your sound will suffer. Cause poor neck joint is imo the number one reason for an otherwise fine bass not being able to give its best sound wise.

That does make alot of sence, just wonder how far in the hole i would go to get a basic set of pick ups and have the installed
