Double Bass Ned Steinberger EUB controls Q

Thanks ND for suggesting this branch.

just purchased a fellow local bassist's Ned Steinberger Czech-made CR5-M (with roadcase, stand, et all).

Anyone else have one?

I'm confused by the controls.

Unlike the manual and the NS website (which shows 5 knob controls ...)

this is a 4 pot model, with switch. Obviously an earlier CRM-5 model before they settled on the 5 knob... so I'm trying to find out:
1) which control am I missing?
2) what does the switch do?

#1 is volume
#2 seems to be blend of pizio and magnetic coil pickups
#3 seems to be bass cut/boost
#4 seems to be treble cut/boost

Anyone else have an NS EUB with 4 knob + switch that can tell me the control difference to the 5 knob models? And what that switch does?

I have one of the early American NS Design EUB’s and the switch has 3 positions which control the piezo bridge pickup. Left position is full pizzicato mode, right is full arco and middle is a mix of those. The four knobs are volume, blend of magnetic and piezo pickups, treble and bass. Since my bass is one of the first 30 instruments that Ned made I’m not sure that yours is an earlier version.
You can contact NS Design and i’m sure they can help out - they are a great crew.

Do you have a pic of your bass?

Thanks heaps, you seem to describe my bass correctly. So it-s possible it-s a U.S, not Czech? It has the heacy duty stand and solid roadcase, as well as gig bag.

I can’t be sure whether yours is made in the US. Mine is constructed of multiple layers of flame maple and phenolic where as yours looks to be solid wood.

Yes, they have it right, above - and the newer 5-knob models replaced the three-way switch with a blend knob for more control.
a belated thank you in translating the old to the new, and why. Now what I'm reading about the two different sounds (piz vs arco) is starting to make sense. This is a new sound and playing style for me, mostly playing Fender basses (including the vintage Bass VI) and the odd Gibson (Recording Low-Z). Thanks again
