Need a New bass (fender or G&L)

Which leaves one bass. Personally I'd consider the L-2000 G&L. Wide range of tones available. and (modern ones) have bunch of screws with precision fit neck that is no problem to remove/put back. No graphite, yet amazingly stable neck.
Only minus is people think neck is kind of "chunky" (I happen to love it). So you'll have to judge for your hands.
Only one of the g&l neck profiles is really chunky. Anything but the big one is comfortable to me.
G&l tends to have an aggressive sound by default but they can be tamed if you have the skills. I don't care for the sound of whom either but I love all the g&ls I have had. Listen to Ed friedlands excellent demo of the l2000 tribute on YouTube to get an idea of what they can do.

I own several G&L's, EBMM's, Fenders. I used to have a CS Fender Deluxe Jazz and I just never liked the preamp. The instrument was nicely built and played well. I just didn't like the tone.
I would also recommend the American Standard's (08 and newer). The passive Fender instruments just seems to sound better to me.
The G&L L2K or ASAT are more in the P bass tonal range. Sure, you can get the single coil option and use the bridge pickup but it still doesn't sound like a jazz bass to me. It's its own sound.
Now, G&L also has a jazz bass model. It's the JB (not the JB-2) and I've heard good things about it but haven't actually played one myself.
Oh, if you really want a good sounding jazz bass, don't rule out the Carvin SBX000 basses.

Thats why my first choice with G&l´s were the ASAT because of neck profile. I dont want a Chunky neck, more of a jazz, sterling neck type. thanks¡
With G&L's you can order whatever neck profile you want (from 4 choices). They have 1.5 or 1.75 width at the nut and a 12 or 7.25 radius. Any G&L (except the new JB) can be ordered with these options, so just b/c it's an ASAT doesn't mean it's going to have a particular neck. However, I think the most popular neck is the #8 (1.5 and 12" radius). I happen to like the #5 (1.75 and 7.25" radius).

Hey Man¡¡ Thanks¡¡¡ If thats completly true that 62´s is giving me smiles¡¡ jaja. Are you sure about that'? i ve read that it needs the enck to be taken off, but i have seen pictures of the bass with no PG and yes the truss rod (kind of philips way) shows¡¡ But ive read IT IS NO POSIBLE to move (add relie or straight it) it without removing the neck¡ Hope you can enlightme with that¡ Thanks¡
Yes i Know that.. But sadly i can order any of them.. I have to buy them online with neck profiles as ASAT = Jazz Type and L-2000= P- Bass Type¡¡ Thnaks anyway¡

I wonder: what attracted you to MM basses in the first place? You played them for 8 years. Also, I hear Carvin makes very good quality for money instruments. You should also check out Dan Atkinson's work. He is an active member of this forum.
You should do yourself a favor and check out the Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom... seriously. The sound you describe, to me, is a P. I was going to suggest a Fender American Standard P, but since you like a J profile neck, the Lakland would be perfect. http://www.lakland.com/basses.htm

Not exactly like a P but it's in the very close neighborhood when you use the neck pickup. The ASAT and L2K are exactly the same except for the body shape.
You can find new L2K's with the #8 jazz neck at many stores that will sell online (BuffaloBros, BassNW, Bass Central, etc.). I used to have an ASAT. I didn't have a terrible neck dive problem but the bass does want to level out. A wide 4" strap did help a bit. Also, there's no tonal difference b/w the ASAT's with the cutout and the ones without it.
i have done set-ups on several Fenders by removing the PG and using a proper size flat-head screw driver. even the Jaco bass was easy to adjust the TR although i did minimal rashing when i wasn't careful.
with a PG, no worries! (a little nick is nothing)
i've seen guys route the body & PG for easy access,... NOT NECESSARY, IMHO!

My first bass was a Fender Indonesian Squier, it was OK except for the action - which even after adjustment just doesn't have a great "feel". When I decided to upgrade, I was looking at both EBMM and G&L, and ended up with a G&L L-2000 this past May. The EBMM sound, while excellent, was NOT for me. You just CAN'T go wrong with a G&L.

I just aquired a G&L JB bass and it is a really nice playing bass, I also have a 2007 Fender Highway One Jazz Bass ... the necks are similar, the JB is a kinda heavy bass the Fender is kinda light .... the G&L JB bass is Plecked from the factory, Fender's are not, what I use all the time for gigs and noodling, at the house, the G&L ...... it's just a better bass ... IMHO
