You would be 100% NUTS to not use the KB players StudioLive. 100%! Please let you guitarist know he should remove his noggin from his poop chute and let the KB player chip in with this piece. Leaps and bounds better than anything Carvin can make, or Behringer, or Mackie or Allen Heath (even though these are truly pro boards unlike the others).
The Studio Live 24 can do so many more things than any other mixer at its price. It gives you a live recording console via Presonus' Capture software, you get 6 aux sends each with Comp/Limit/Gate/4-Band parametric EQ AND a 31 band EQ on each aux out! There are two very nice sounding and useful multi-effects processors (OK they aren't PCM-41's..) dedicated as two additional aux sends. Each input has Comp/Limit/Gate/4-Band parametric EQ. Each Group and Main output also has Comp/Limit/Gate/4-Band parametric EQ and a 31 band EQ. And guess what? You can store and save each gig so you can dial in the next show in seconds. Oh yeah, we have ours tied in with a laptop and we all have our own iPads that we use to control our own monitor mixes. Very sweet.
I run the StudioLive16 with the JBL PRX 3-ways and the bigger PRX 18" sub. Dude, it kills! Clean as heck! Big and Bad!
People, just because some really groovy cats in southern california send you these really nice color catalogs to read on the crapper, doesn't mean you need to buy it. It's not bad gear, but it's not great gear. But I do think they make some very nice axes.
Trust me on this. Presonus StudioLive with the powered speakers of your choice is the only way to do live shows anymore.
