Need advice- realistic price?

Hi- I'm a newbie here but been playing bass +30yrs.
I got a Hamer Cruise Bass 5 2tek jazz style bass w/ohc that I purchased brand new around '95. It sat in it's case the better part of it's life and only started playing/giging with it around 3-4 yrs ago.
So it's still in pretty good condition- couple of small dings and belt rash. It sounds great and I'm thinking of having it setup w/flatwounds- it never has been setup before since I got it.The neck has a slight bow, but the truss rod has never been touched. Plan on taking it to a local pro luthier for setup.
The main reason for selling is because of a shoulder problem I can't play heavy type basses anymore. This bass is +9lbs(ouch!)
The question is that I'm planning to put it up for sale and hoping I can get around $500 w/case. Do you think this is a realistic asking price for this bass?
I've been watching eBay for a couple of months and haven't seen any other Hamer 5string w2teks for sale.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm leaving for band rehearsal in a few, but will be back here later this evening.

The other issue is that I live in Hawaii so shipping is kinda expensive.

Thnks

you can't ask questions like this unless you are a supporting member ;)

Rule #3: Off-limit Topics & Forum-Specific Rules
Controversial topics will be VERY closely moderated. Politics and religious debate/discussion are not allowed in any forum unless specifically allowed by the forum's posted rules ("sticky" threads).

Do not denigrate or defame other discussion forums on our boards.

All gear 'for-sale' and 'wanted' text must be limited to posts in the TalkBass Classifieds category. The Bass Guitar Classifieds are open to Supporting Members only.

Price check/"How much is this bass worth"-type threads are limited to supporting members only. Post them in the appropriate forums for the item in question (A question related to the value of a bass guitar should be posted in the Basses[BG] forum, an amplifier in the Amps[BG] forum, etc.)

been checking CL and eBay but haven't seen any other like this.
They only made them for like 3 years- '94-97 I think.
That's why I'm wondering how rare it is(and maybe I should keep it?) :smug:
Thanks for the reply- this being my first ever post,:hiding: I thought I was gonna strikeout- especially after the first reply.:crying:
btw it's passive w/2 vols,1 tone and basslines pups.

Probably what I would do is put it up on Ebay for a bit more than I thought it was worth, and put a "Buy it Now" with a "Best Offer" option on it. That way if you get some offers you can see what people are willing to pay. That's kind of a more unusual bass, so hard to tell about value.

And no worries. We did get a lot of people signing up for membership here just to ask what something was worth, and then you'd never see them again. They implemented the policy of being a supporting member to try and keep that to a minimum.

thnks to all for your advice- it's been very helpfull-
I've been lurking here a couple of months, then decided to register and today decided to upgrade. Already I've been exposed to a ton of info- more in the last 30days than in 30 yrs of playing.:)
Thanks TB members!
You guys are a cool bunch of people, I just wish I found this place years ago.

I got mine for $450 here on TB last year -- but that was IMO an extremely low price; lowest I have ever seen.

Mine is 10.75 Lbs though, has some dings and was modified extensively by a previous owner.

Yours is significantly under 10 lbs -- that is rare for this bass. Immediately that makes yours worth more than mine.

Given also that yours is a case-bass original and single-owner, you should be able to get MUCH more than 450 for it. If I were you I would hold out for an absolute minimum of 700 -- if that -- but remember I am biased because that I have one too, and really like it.

I was hoping to trade mine for a 4-string, but have decided I like it too much to let it go. I think this is the only 5-string I'll ever like or need, and it really sounds great. It does feel heavy, but it balances perfectly, plays FAST and sounds beautiful.

If you do get yours set up professionally, play it for a while afterward to make sure you won't regret selling it.

Hey Joe(Battery)!

Since getting back into music around 2005, the internet has really been getting a workout from me! More times than not, when I'd Google something bass related I'd end up at a TalkBass thread. I became a member at the beginning of the year. If I can support PBS for "Doctor Who" I can certainly support TalkBass.

Welcome,
