Need advice !

So this is my story; I saved money for ages and ages to buy a overpriced ($2300 I live in mexico and there is only one dealer so..), nevertheless beautiful EBMM Stingray 3, and after having it for over a year with the tone i wanted to get (growly as in Flea in ¨So Much I¨), i realised that it is really not my thing right know, i need some more classic sexy bass sound (cause as you may know the stingray is a completely different feel), and im GASing over a jazz bass.

But since im in Mexico (which means ridicuolous overpricing) and 15 years old, getting the money for a MIA means a lot of time and effort, which im willing to do, but there is also the option of a MIM, but im not sure if there is much of a difference.. (i intend ot keep this bass for years literally)

So, is a MIA worth the time effort and overpricing? or is there not much difference betwen MIM and MIA to be worth it?

Some will say yes, some will say no, and some will say carrots. My best advice is to get your hands on as many basses as possible and try them out. What feels and sounds great to one, may not be the same to another person. As with any mass produced item, there will be great ones, good ones, average ones, poor ones, and bad ones. Just gotta look and not jump at the first one you find that you like. JMO

I owned an MIM Deluxe Active Jazz V for close to 8 years. It had very good tone and playability for a bass in the price range (back then) and was extremely versatile. I played rock, country, disco, funk, gospel, contemporary christian, heavy metal, reggae, with it and it never let me down.

The biggest differences in the MIM's and MIA Jazz of today are the pickups. MIA's have samarian colbalt noiseless pups in them, the MIM DLX's have vintage noiseless pups. MIA has a 22 fret neck, MIM's have a 20 fret neck. The neck on the MIA felt smoother because they IIRC have rounded edges, but other than that type of stuff I didn't really notice much of a difference in tone.

IMO/IME you'd probably be better off saving up for a Lakland 55-02 rather than the MIA Fender. I feel you get more bang for your buck with the 55-02. They are also slightly more versatile.

MIM will be cheeper, but you could also consider a used MIA off someone on the forums. the difference from what ive experienced are from bass to bass. ive played some MIM's that made MIA's look like garbadge. but ive also played MIA's that made me see why fender MIA's are so expencive. id say go and try out all the MIM's and MIA's you can at yous local shop see which fits you best then try and score a good used on off TB
