Need dirt for contrabassoon/blown speaker sound, example inside...

Hey, I'm not sure what the heck is going on basswise in this song (two basses, split signal with one dirty, a bass and an organ.....) but the bassoon/horn like distortion that comes in is magnificent and I'd like to emulate it.

It's the song 'Devil's Got Your Mind' by The San Francisco TKO's. I uploaded this just for TB and now I see why I don't listen to YouTube much, It compressed the bass a ton.....

I think i hear it - if I'm listening to the right line, it sounds like a nice grindy drive (like, lots of teeth to it, rather than a wooly sound) with plenty of compression. Not sure what to recommend but maybe check out an SFT or BDDI?

Thanks for the replies. YouTube really changed the sound and it seems as though the sound I'm after was cut the most...

It comes in prominently at 00:05, 00:42, and 01:17.

I'm going to play more with my SolidGoldFX Beta and Tall Font Russian Muff based on the recommendations so far. I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned a Brassmaster style fuzz, I've never played one but I wonder if it can cop that tone...

If you overdrive\clip the input of your Beta it sounds like a cranked Barbershop. I do the opposite with my Beta...it has a low input signal to retain the fatness.

That's exactly how I use mine as an always on pedal. I've never really tried to use it as an overdrive.

I vote trying OD and/or a sputtery fuzz mixed with an od.

That's the plan for tonight! I finally made my baffle reducing ring so I am mounting a 10' Faital in my Ampeg B100R. This should help to break it in...
