I got this neglected 71 P Bass a few months back from a close friend and fellow musician. I finally took it apart to see if it is original and I don't know where to begin. The neck stamp and plate match and show to be a 71 but the body is what has me scratching my head. I guess the main question is that, should I restore it, put back together and sell it or part it out if its not a original. Here are some pics so maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I have an early 70's P. Neck looks legit, and body probably is, bar the jazz P/U route. Way to check body? From about 69 to 73 the bridges were fitted incorrectly, ie to far back towards the strap button. No other P built outside of those dates will have this problem.

Would love a project like that. Whats it weigh?

What he said, the G-string bridge adjustment screw is a half inch longer to compensate.

Looks legit to me, I have a 71 fretless bought new.

I'll check weight for you. Yeah it looks like there were other cut outs in the body previously filled in? What about the dark stain on the neck by the logo?

Years of smoky bars..its been played in anger and will probably sound great when fixed up. Also, fingerboard is probably Brazillian Rosewood, pretty sure mine is and they are way nicer than anything you see today.
