Hello I have a 2X15 peavey cab and am trying to find if it is loaded with black widows. I took one out but it had no stickers anywhere. The speakers in my cab are all black and the center is not silver like I see black widows usually have, yet I have seen people claim not all black widows have the shiny center. Please give me some help the cab is a 215D thanks

need help identifying Black widows

I'd like to know as well. I have a Peavey 115 cab and the speaker has a replaceable basket(?), would this clue me in or do I have to get inside the box?
Scorpions have a replaceable basket too. Pics would help here, as there have been many versions of both BW's and Scorpions.
That doesn't really seem to give much detail into which speakers are actually in which cabs
No the speakers in my cab actually sound good. But I wanted to know what they where. No stickers on the back all I found was a number 1567x 8ohm I've searched peaveys site and that number dosent appear anywhere. They seem to be older speakers but are in great shape and still have good attack and hold the lows very well. I'm also kind of a gearaholic so I'm looking for n excuse to buy new speakers though lol
I bought a Black Widow recently that had no writing on it anywhere and it did not have the aluminum dust cover, either.

If you've got BW magnets/motor structures of that vintage the best basket replacement is the 1505-8 BW type. DON'T get 1505 KA DT or several other old variants! Some of those are discontinued stock and were not even meant for bass guitar, having VERY low excursion/xmax capacity.
Scorpions have always had a 4 spoke basket from my years in PA/Bass playing. Black Widows are heavier, have a larger flatter magnet, and have multiple round spokes on the basket. Cones have changed over the years, but the back stayed the same. I'll admit im younger though so my mileage definitely varies here.
Many of the Peavey speakers came with either Scorpions or Black Widows at the buyer's option. I don't think there's any way to tell by the speaker model.
The Scorpion in my Peavey 1x15 started to rattle and I replaced it with an Eminence, and I agree that this Scorpion has a 4-spoke basket. Anyone here is welcome to the old speaker if they want to pay shipping. It has the replaceable basket, but I am not interested in doing the replacement since I got a fabulous deal on the Eminence.

I had a cab that said "Black Widow Equipped" or something on it, but the speaker did not have the silver thing on it. This cab was an 18" and 2 10"s.
The silver dust cap is not exclusive to Peavey. It's most well-known in the 60's JBL D130F and D140F series.
well i guess im just going to have to either like them as is or change them. i recorded with the cab today and it sounds pretty goood actually. clean and tight. ive never owned a 15 and much less a 2x15 so i had misconceptions about them being "loose" or weak sounding but i have been schooled.
Altec's also used the silver center caps, CTS used silver caps with a black vent in the very center.
