Need help with a Yamaha RBX375!!!

Hey people, i hope to get some advice or solution from you.

I have a Y Rbx375 setted up with action and tuning very simmilar to Korn's Fieldy type of sound, (just for an experiment) but i think the extremely low action has done something to the bass tone, (in my other basses i have really low action without the fret noises but i dont get this results):

When playing notes it sound kinda distorted, particullary on the real low notes. i tried putting mics far away from the strings, it helped a bit. but there is still that little distorted/saturated thing. (and i cant put mics lower). any thoughts? ideas? solutions?

Hi Berkowitzum,

My guess is the magnets in the pickups are pulling on the strings.

If you have removed the foam from under the pickups and they won't go any lower, my only suggestion is to use a full-pocket shim to raise the neck up. This would allow you to keep a low action, but move the strings further away from the pickup magnets.

I think a shim about 2mm thick would be enough. The shim would need to be the same size dimensions as the pocket the neck sits in and have holes to allow the screws to go through.

In your case, I would make the shim flat, not angled.
