need help with an big idea.

I have a traben array attack 4 string bass. It has rockfield double coil and one single coil pickup. What I have been thinking about doing is replacing the with bassline pickups. What are your thoughts or suggestions? I play everything but the band I am in plays hard rock to metal. Need serious help on this one. Really hate the stock pickups.

Personally, I've heard good things about the Rockfields.

A pickup change will be 'different' but whether it's 'better' or not entirely depends on what you 'need' sonically and how much research you do into what each brand and model of pickups will change tone wise.

It 'could' be more about the preamp than the pickups.

I no longer have the chaos I have a music man that I play mostly now. But my chaos had two doubles and I guess that's kind of the punch I am trying to get. I would like a cleaner sound the rockfield are giving it just way to much punch. I have the music man for punch but I can play slap bass on it where as the traben it doesn't sound as good

I had one of those, traben attack array. The rockfield J it has is about the best sounding to me J pups Ive ever played. The bridge humbucker however was too treble oriented. Getting nice useable to me sounds from various pup blending settings of blend was overly cumbersome cause tillting toward either bridge or neck required readjusting the 3band eq. Id reploace the humbucker bridge pup and keep the rockfield neck pup and repalce the 3band eq. The stock ones midband was just useless to me at anything but flat setting due to where it has the center freq. Treble control was ok but would be better for me if it was closer to 5.2k or 6k for center freq. In the end I decided to replace the bass with one with better stock pups and better stock preamp rather then invest in the upgrades.

But if you really like yours, Id say replace the bridge humbucker with a basslines and keep the rockfield J pup.
