Need help with my black Warwick $$ finish (pics)

Hey guys, I just picked up a GC blowout Warwick Corvette $$ in "nirvana black". This thing sounds awesome. The one problem is that I have white spots on the finish. It looks like someone splashed milk on it (or some other mysterious fluid). I read the manual, it says that colored basses do not have to be waxed, so I'm not sure what to do. I do have the warwick wax. Should I just clean it with a warm wet cloth? EB Wonder Wipes? Send it to a tech? Leave it alone?

I dunno though, it actually might be scratches those finishes are weird.

ya, i would try to use a damp(not too damp) soft cloth on it see what happens. Make sure to dry it off immediately.

Those might be scratches as was mentioned. I had a nirvana black Warwick SSI, and that's how scratches/dings looked on that finish.

If they do not wipe off with a damp cloth (they don't recommend using the wax on oil finished basses), then I would say they are scratches/scuffs in the finish.

Is that something on it? Or is the finish peeling? If you lick your fingertip and rub one of those areas, what happens?

Also am I the only one that noticed one of the pup screws is chrome, while the rest are black?

MAN, those marks would bug me to no end!!
I hope they went 'above and beyond" with the blowout pricing on THAT one!

FWIW-My local GC is only down to around $1050 for the Corvette $$'s-I hope you did better than that.

Based on the placement of those marks I could imagine it is from a slap player. Someone playing slap enough on that bass could have scratched the finish. Thats my guess.

That is common on the $$. It's the finish peeling off. Check out the Warwick forums and see what they say. (www.Warwick.de)

Ah, yes, I guess it's the finish peeling off. I used the damp cloth in one area and it got a little worse. The wood is very smooth in those areas, while the normal finish is not. It's not someone ON the finish, it's UNDER the finish. Lame.

The silver screw is from another warwick bass at GC because my bass was missing a screw.

The E string is missing because I was changing strings and decided to leave it off until I got an answer. If I needed to wax the body then I'd have to take all the strings off anyway.

I think I will try to exchange it with another GC in town. My deal was around $1050 so I should probably get a better bass.

I wonder if someone bought it, played it until the one day before the return policy expired, and said "here's your bass back", warts and all.

If you can get another $$ ,thats what i would do. DON'T try to wax that finish.

Ok, I figured it out. Someone already tried to wax the finish. That's the white stuff coming off. The paint is fine (WHEW!!).

I went to the other GC with a $$ and theirs was scratched all to hell. Like someone took a key to it and carved a bunch of lines. Plus it was going for more than mine without a gig bag (mine came with the awesome warwick gig bag).

I'm so happy with this bass. I gigged with it tonight. The sound is a lot different from what I'm used to (MusicMan stuff, which is great stuff in its own right), but in a good way.

So if anyone wants to know what it looks like when you wax the colored finish warwick basses, that's it. Case closed.
