Of course I tried all settings, and especially with the band, who is now sick of me playing with pedals throughout rehearsals. Again, overall, I think the compressor is good, but it's overpriced because of the noise issue. of course, I don't know if mine was a lemon or not, but I do know I returned it.
I'll take this moment to reiterate Bongo's comments about the Behringer bass pedal. It's pretty good, if extraordinarily cheaply made. If I was going to use one of them, I'd buy two and keep the second in my bag as a backup. I was going to return it, but the return shipping is almost as much as the pedal itself so it stays, unused. Ah, such is modern business in America... No wonder our landfills overflow.
In the end, it's looking more like the Zoom is going to win the day. I like what the 160 model does tonally, and I can stack another tone module in the patch if I want to. It seems to work better, less muddy, in the effect loop, making it viable again. I'm currently giving the Zoom Multistomp a go, which I think may actually sound better. I know that it has a couple of improved effects for bass, and a multi-effect in a single stompbox is pretty nice for those like me who try to travel light.
And just a couple of other comments-
I'm not a "boutique" kind of guy; I wear off the rack clothes, and for the most part like my equipment the same way. makes it easy to replace when something happens. (which makes me a hypocrite regarding my bass, which is totally custom Warmoth built by me. oh well.)
