For the record, if I had to choose between the two... I'd go with the 400/400+, but if I were to make the decision based on solid state v tube, I'd probably go for an M-2000 instead of the Impulse.

No, seriously, 400 is a great head, and the cabs are fine I find you can fine tune your tone preferences with a custom cab, and I am not saying mine, there are people making great stuff, I just lost confidence over the years in commercial offerings, often stuffed with same or similar drivers into boxes too small and secondary construction (not Mesa specifically but general blanket statement).
Anyway, its all good, if you like it thats all that matters anyway.
