Need some help choosing

Hey guys, I am new to talkbass and I need some help choosing between to basses that I am thinking to get. The first one is a fender jaguar (in red) Invalid Link Removed
and the Stagg BM350-SNB in Blue or cyan. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
They both look like good basses, I think that the Fender probably does play better but also is more expensive. I haven't played the Stagg but have played the fender. In fact in a GC near my house they are selling a Jag for $549 which I think is a pretty cheap judging they are around $900 now. So what do you guys think? Has anyone had any experiences with either of these basses or any advice?

Without a doubt, the Fender is the better of the two basses (I've owned both). That being said and done, the Stagg is a pretty good deal. I just bought my second one (sold the first a few years back), I got it today, it is going to need some setup work and I wouldn't call it the best made bass in the world, but for $150.00 (that includes shipping), It is pretty cool. The neck on both of them that I've owned have had a really nice feel to them. I am going to mod the heck out of it (change out all the hardware, swap out the front pickup and probably paint it). It's going to be a fun project. Those cheapo music man copy pickups sound pretty good.

It's worth a trip to your local big city. Here in North Carolina, I took four seperate trips to Raleigh, the capital.

Each time, I would stop by multiple dealers (SamAsh, Guitar Center..) to look at basses.

When you go, PLAY your basses, THROUGH AN AMP. Take your time, pick carefully.

If you've tried many basses and are stuck on these, go try out the other one. If not, I suggest a few basses.

Wal MK II
Fender '94 Jazz
Fender P Bass (after '78)
Sting Basses
Ibanez Soundgear MK II (With LS D'Addario Chromes Flatwound Gauge .050 - .105)

I own a Fender '94 Jazz
Loved the Wal MK II, wish I would've got it.
Stings produce a similar tone to Wals
And the Ibanez Soundgear MK II with those strings is simply amazing for any rock-style bassist.

I am actually going to chicago this upcoming weekend so I will probably look around in some guitar shops there, anyone have any particular guitar shop recommendations in the city of chicago? I heard the chicago music exchange is great but it seems a little pricey

The Jag has active/passive, passive tone control when in active mode, series/parallel switching, a really nice Jazz neck, and is probably made much better than the Stagg. Meanwhile the Stagg has two passive humbuckers. The Fender will be more versatile, and will probably have better playability. Yep, it costs more, but if you like the one for $549, I think that's the better bass at a very good price.
