Need some "line out" clarification

Hi there. Forgive my ignorance...I am not an amp guy like some are.
I have a church gig where I play through a MarkBass CMD 102P. It's a fine amp.
Anyway, my question is this: Do my volume and gain knobs effect the line out signal? I am running XLR out of the back of the amplifier, and I have a "line out" knob on the front of the amp. I'm guessing the gain will effect it, but not the volume, (as is normal) or do neither effect it because there is a dedicated "line out" volume?

Is there any reason you haven’t just tried it to see what it does?
Or does the manual offer any insight?
Just a couple of suggestions in case no one has the answer and you find yourself in an immediate need to know situation.

My guess is that your assumptions are correct. "Gain" will affect overall volume, as it alters your preamp signal. "Line Out" obviously will directly control the line out volume. The "Master" (volume) knob should only affect the volume of the signal the amp is sending to its internal speaker.

And once your input gain is set on a markbass amp (the blue light comes on occasionally when you play hard), then there's no need to change it afterward.
Once the sound guy has told you he has enough Line Out level, that should not change either.

I checked the manual...NADA, but I agree with "Try it."

I believe the XLR has a pre and post button as well. My MB 15" Jeff Berlin student amp does. The line out effects that and possible the gain knob and the start of the control strip. So if you choose post then all your controls are passed onto FOH. If you choose pre probably only the gain and line and of course your bass and any pedals you may use.

Your intuition is correct: Gain stage affects both cabinet speaker and DI (Line Out). Amp volume only affects relative loudness at the cab, DI volume only controls how hot the signal is to the sound board. Pre/Post switch only controls whether or not your EQ settings go to the board ("Pre" sends a flat signal, "Post" sends your EQ settings).

As you sound check, kill your output volume at the cab and experiment with how much DI volume signal the sound tech wants until he is happy. Every board is different, so it's a nice feature to be able to control how hot that signal is.

Possibly not helpful but when you finally sort out the proper levels with our FOH engineer, mark said levels with white tape and marker. Or, better yet, tape over the knob. ;-)
