Need some suggestions.

I don't mean to be negative, but maybe now's not the right time for you to be trying to learn to play. You've listed lots of reasons why you don't have time. Maybe your life is trying to tell you something.

Music won't go away. If you want to come back to it later (like I did at 50 years old) you can. Meanwhile, put your efforts where they're paying you back. You say you train in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?) and lift weights. If that's what you enjoy and where you feel a return on your personal investment, then that's what you should do. You don't even have to give up on bass guitar--just recognize that "progressing" isn't going to happen right now, and enjoy what you can do.

Good luck,
Chas

I'll try Audacity, thanks.

I've thought about it, of course. Maybe it's just not bass that's for me. But in the end I decided that I do like music and enjoy playing bass.

My life will get super busy when school starts. I'll be taking 3 physics courses, an astronomy course, and two music courses (beginner jazz theory and some ear training course).

I plan on infinite pain and suffering. But until then, I'm pretty free and want to make the best of it.

Yeah, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and lifting are my main hobbies, but when I have a rest day or when I'm injured, I need something else to do.
