Need Some Tab Tips for a First Timer

I get tab requests all the time on my videos on Youtube, and seeing as I'm a nice guy, I've been feeling like fulfilling those requests. Problem is, I have no idea how I should make a tab. When I see tabs, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of hyphens and all that.

So my question is, what's the easiest way to make tabs? Is there software, particularly free software, that's out there that I can use?

I like Tabledit, it will let you do standard notation or tab, one nice feature is if you have the standard notation, it'll make tab for you, or vice versa. They have a free/trial version that limits you to like 20 bars and no midi playback. The learning curve isn't to great. And you can convert the tabs to pdf for general read only distribution.
