NEED SPEAKER HELP

So I'm about to venture into the world of building my own 8x10. I have a few questions before I start though.

1) How does hooking 8 10" speakers affect the ohm rating? Do I need a specific ohm for a the speakers so they'll be within a usable range for an amp?

2) What's a good NEODYMIUM brand to look into? I want the BEST sounding and playing speaker I can find. And yes, I'm expecting it to be rather expensive. haha.

3) And finally, when all the speakers are wired together, does the frequency range of all the speakers as a whole change any? I've noticed that some speakers only range from around 60hz-2500hz or whatnot. Would the 60 vary any? And if not, how long would the speakers need to be able to handle a low B on a 5 string?

I know these may all be dumb questions, but I'm new at this. I need the experienced guys' help! Thanks a lot! Remember. SPEAKERS. I need good ones.
 
tons of great questions, what i can tell you is that you should check out the hertz of a low B string and match that to around whatever speaker you may be using. maybe put in a crossover and use 4 speakers for lowend and 4 for highend? who knows! anyways, best of luck man. building cabs is tough.
 
1) The ohm rating of the whole cabinet can be changed through creative wiring. Series wiring will double impedence (ie, 2 8-ohm speakers in series = 16ohm), while parellel will decrese it (the 2 8-ohms become 4). However, there is a real set of equations for this, that was just an example.

2) I dont really have any recommendations here.

3)The wiring does not change the frequency response of the cabinet, the speakers and the box do. When you find a speaker that looks good, model it in WinISD.

Right now, id say your a little far off being able to build your own cab. Sorry bud.

Also, to what Santucci said, a low b is approximatly 31 hertz. Most cabs wont hit this at the same loudness as frequencies around 50-250.

1. Individual speaker drivers can actually be wired several ways to produce several different net impedances. My recommendation would be to use all 8 ohm drivers as follows:
A. Wire each pair in SERIES. This creates an impedance of 16 ohms per pair. Preferably this should be each horizontal pair (as in an SVT cabinet).
B. Wire each of the four PAIRS of speakers in PARALLEL. This will bring the overall NET impedance of the cabinet down to 4 ohms, drawing maximum power from your amp for maximum volume.

2. Many players love the Eminence DeltaLite II's neodymium drivers, which are greatly improved from the original DeltaLites.

3. Many bass drivers will begin to "roll off" at 50 or 60 Hz, meaning the volume gradually decreases as the frequency drops. It does NOT mean the driver will suddenly not produce the fundamentals of notes lower than these frequencies, it just means that the volume will gradually diminish the lower the frequency becomes. EQ and tone controls compensate for this (hence the original meaning of the term: "EQUAL-ization"). A low B string fundamental is about 31 Hz, the low E is about 41 Hz.

Then why an 8x10?

If you really want sound quality, you have to select the appropriate driver and engineer the cab to enclose it properly. If you choose a Deltalite 2510-II, this means 1.5 to 2.12 cubic feet per driver. At $100 per driver, this is $800 just for the speakers.

You can use the Basslite S2010 driver which doesn't go down as low, but runs nice in 0.95 cubic feet per driver. These will set you back at least $60 each.

If you build an 8x10, you will still have combing problems, and a large cab that can be difficult to move about.
