need suggestions for strings

Hi everyone,

Just bought a Fender Jazz American Special and I really can't get along with the strings it came with. Tried to play with the setup, still don't like them. Kinda buzz-y... So I want to change them.

What I am after is a 'warmer' sound, close to fretless. I also like tight strings, high tension / low action. So I probably need flatwounds (nickel?...)

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

If you wanna stay with rounds, I would suggest GHS Boomers.

If you wanna go with something other than rounds but not quite flats, I would suggest GHS Pressure Wounds.

Everybody should try tapes. Mind you, I think we're all of 4% on the grand string type poll. If you like high tension, there are tapes for you, but they are not the ones I use...

Agreed about tapes. Warmer sound, more like fretless.

You could try some compression wounds, Ken Smith and GHS make them. Really nice warm sound, without moving into full on tape territory. Or flatwound or tape, but it sounds like roundwounds aren't for you.

Thanks, but I'd really go for flats. Somethign that will give me high tension / low action and a warm tone...
