Need your thoughts!

So, i've been reading a lot about how people are using the SX basses. I currently am playing a Fender 5 string jazz bass and am looking for a cheap backup 5 string until I can afford a better one.

Would the SX be good? I mean, could I gig with it out of the box if I had too? Or would I need to modify it?

I gigged several times swith an SX fretless jazz 4+1 right out of the box (though I did change the strings out).

BTW. How is the B on the SX? Is it pretty tight?

Of course I have read that can vary from one brand of string to another - though I have never noticed a problem with the B string on any 5+ string bass I have owned. I was using Ken Smith compression wound strings. No problem at all with the B.
