Neil Jason's Manhattan Prestige Basses?

I was looking at some basses on the Zzounds.com website and came across this J style bass.

Have any of you heard of these or possibly even played one? They are made in India according to the back of the headstock. It definitely has me curious.

Curious: Other than the potential for it to create a weak point if the neck isn't appropriately sized/shaped/reinforced at that spot, what's the downside? I gotta say, I have never owned an instrument with the truss rod adjustment at the other end of the neck that was as easy to access, and hence as easy to adjust, as any of the instruments I owned that had the truss rod adjustment up at the headstock.

You must have never adjusted a EBMM then, the easiest neck adjustment I have used doesn’t even require a specific tool, my Fbass is a breeze also, saw a couple of ‘70s Jazz Basses with cracks in that area, no thanks, YMMD.

That's a nice demo. I just ordered a red one from Zzounds. The same color in the youtube clip at the top. Apparently according to what Neil Jason is saying he spent a couple years getting it just how he wanted it and for it to be consistent. Sounds promising. The seafoam green one with maple fretboard isn't on Zzounds. Maybe that one was a prototype.

I'm pretty critical when it comes to jazz basses because the sound can often be a little too choked for my liking, but I've got to say, that is one of the nicest sounding examples I've ever heard. In fact, I've heard a lot of custom shop Fender Jazz basses that didn't sound THAT good. It's not quite in Alleva Coppollo territory, but for a quarter of the price, I could deal with it ...
