How can a bridge convert a bass from fretted to fretless?
What DDP is playing is a model with that actual bridge.

I'm sorry, which actual bridge?

Fretting a note on a fretted bass means the string is vibrating anchored to two firm points, the fret and the saddle. On a fretless, one point is soft (the fretboard). So my guess is it has a substitute saddle made of rosewood or similar or a mechanism that "softens" the bridge anchor point.
I wonder what a fretless would sound like, then, with that NFS bridge
