Never used effects before!

Completely agree there. Tons of people on here use VT bass or BDDIs. Both would be extremely helpful if you got a cheaper amp as they can help beef up or fill out your sound where your amp EQ is lacking.
that's assuming the amp eq is lacking. if it isn't, an extra eq is just another box that gets in the way. if it is, it can help.

not that i'd call sansamp pedals eq, though. they do have eq functions, but they do a lot more, too.

No need for amp modeler at all. I want my thunderfunk doing the work as intended.

If you like the sound of your amp and don't want to change it, I would advise against the suggestions for Tech 21 products such as the BDDI and VT Bass as they are in fact amp modelers. I could make a thread asking for an envelope filter recommendation and people would chime in saying to get a VT Bass or BDDI, so take those recommendations with a grain of salt.

Of course theres not as much need for one if your amp has a good eq, Im only speaking from personal experience considering im using a small cube amp lately while im at school. EQ pedals and my sansamp have done wonders to shape and fill out the tone.

my amp has a very nice EQ....I set it flat and run a Bass VT.
even if you have a great sounding rig, the Tech21s will give you the ability to change "flavours", it really has nothing to do with quality, it's a matter of variety.

yeah if you have any preconcieved notions about your tone. prepare for them to disapear when you turn on a tech21, this is both a blessing to the majority of mankind, and a scourge to those who have been tweaking for years.. anywho

im gonna go the otherway and say stay away from the m9/m13 not because it isnt a brilliant bit of kit because it is!.. but because if your new to effects, then your gonna be overwhelmed, too many presents on christmas day! and then ultimately use it for 2 effects tops, and the whole filter section where all the presets are useless for bass without tweaking, all the presets are aimed for guitar (bar bass for your face or whatever inane name it had) this is making the mans life more hassle then its worth + he would have to update it to use the pitch effects..

id say get muff then think about getting an oc2/3 or a FX25B..

but yeah id say octave then Envelope
