New amp. Need suggestions

i am currently gigging with a GK 800rb in a Gator case with a rack mount tuner, power conditioner and eq, through a GK 410 cab. Great sound but just too big and heavy. I have a small Roland Bass Cube 100 for practice and small gigs.

Am currently moving into a condo and am Looking for recommendations on an amp that can meet both needs. Smaller than the rackmount( and lighter) but more power than the Cube. A do all type - Markbass, PJB,???

Need suggestions. Play blues, Jazz, Rock.

Seems like a situation that would call for checking into the GK MB line (maybe search the forum for comparisons between the 800RB and MB heads). They'll fit in the pocket on a gig bag.

I think 212 cabinets are a good compromise in moving away from a 410 out of size and weight concerns. In general terms, a 212 will fill a lot of roles in the place of a 410 (assuming that you aren't routinely pushing the 410's limits). I don't know the details on GK cabs, but I think they should have something light and compact relative to a 410. Looking at other brands, you should be able to find something that gets you a bit under 40 lbs.

A plug-in tuner works well on a micro head. Not sure if the Korg Pitchjack is discontinued, but they were cheap.

I separated your post because of the somewhat unfair expectations you seem to place on your equipment. A practice amp is just that; an amp for practicing... I have one of those! An amp for gigs is for the purpose of going on a stage or platform... I have one of those too! But to compromise both may not be the best option. I wouldn't expect the practice amp that I have in my room to satisfy my need or the rest of the band's at our rehearsal, or on stage; because the band (especially the rhythm section) needs to feel, as well as hear the bass (I don't assume to speak for your band). And I do understand what it is trying to move equipment alone... I've been there. But I do believe in being 'more than capable' of accomplishing the obligatory task of providing support to the band and that's my job! "No offense intended... just my 0.5" cents

Any of the micro amps should fit your needs. GK MB line, MarkBass, Genz Shuttle or Streamliner, Tecamp, ToneHammer. All are great amps.

Check out the Carvin MB series. Plenty of power(250watts), 30lbs +or- great sound and EQ a direct line out if more power needed. Reliable and even better with an ext cab. I Prefer to the GC or TC offerings, but that's me. Also the price is very reasonable. Haven't compared it to the more expensive offerings, so no opinions on that.
