New (and unnecessary) Bass Day!!

So I was checking out Craigslist and ran across this...

...for $50. I couldn't pass it up.

It's an SR300 built in August 2008 according to the serial number. It's got a couple of scratches and a crack in the finish (not through to the wood) on the back. I haven't plugged it in yet, so don't know how it sounds or if it has issues with the electronics. The neck feels just like my SR400 and is straight and in great shape. Now I just need to clean it up, check it out and do a setup and see what's next for this little guy.

If it has problems, I may sacrifice it for parts and participate in this - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=678918 - we'll see.

Yeah, I don't really need it for anything. I have four stringers covered and a couple of fives. Could be a fretless project (don't have one of those yet), or I might use the neck and hardware for a fresh body build or something.

Yeah, I was looking on CL to see what half stacks are going for since I have a Hartke setup I'm thinking about throwing up for sale and saw this. I always find good deals when I don't need them or I'm not really looking.

While I never buy something that's a great deal just to flip it, the knowledge that I can easily make money on it makes the whole thing a no-brainer.

Well in that case I guess the heartburn I'll inevitably end up with tonight won't be real so I guess I still win!

I'm still at work, so haven't plugged it in to anything yet to see what it sounds like. Acoustically it has really nice tone and seems to be louder with better sustain than my very similar SR400. Harmonics sing nicely. Frets are dressed pretty well, not much hanging off the sides. Neck is typical super-fast Ibanez, is straight and feels really great. I showed it to a co-worker that also plays and he couldn't put the thing down.

...of course I'm now a big fat liar so you can assume that it's set up terribly, strung with old straightened-out wire coat hangers and probably bleeding tree sap or some other such nastiness.

IMHO, more than one bass is UNNECESSARY

Not that there is anyway in hell that will stop me from owning as many as i can!
