New Ashdown Studio MiniRig 210 vs Ampeg SVT Micro VR 210

So I haven't seen much about this...
But it looks Ashdown has a new Mini Stack out, that looks likes its intended to compete directly against Ampeg's SVT Micro VR.

Ashdown Studio MiniRig
Ampeg SVT Micro VR

Both are Micro/Mini Fridge Stacks.
Both are 2x10 Speakers.
Both are similar wattage, the Ashdown is 250w, the Ampeg is 200w
The Ampeg has 3 band EQ
The Ashdown has 5 band EQ
Both have similar/same features...

Just seems like this Ashdown was designed specifically, to target that Ampeg!


So, I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any actual experience playing through both of these, and could offer some first hand comparisons... or more so, if anyone out there actually HAS both of these, that could do some sort of video review of them both, playing the same riffs, with same/similar EQ settings, etc.

I've seen lots of videos of the Ampeg, and it sounds awesome, but hardly any out there of this new Ashdown. I even did a Search on this forum for the Ashdown and surprisingly, nothing came up...

Yea there doesn't seem to be much talk about these two Amp's which surprises me...
I figured there would be a LOT of talk about that new Ashdown at least.
More so, I thought there would be a lot of talk, comparing it to that Ampeg...
I would really like to see a comparison video sometime, of the two going against each other.

I got the Ampeg mini SVT without the cab i go XLR right out of the head into UA Apollo drive it through an API pre inside the DAW for recording killer sounds just like the Daddy SVT, I never really seen it as a gigging amp head and the speakern sensitivity in any cab for this head to be loud enough would have to be over a 100 db miked up it doessnt have the push like an adult SVT but it does work well as a pre into anything reallly, I bet if you ran it into a powered PA speaker like K.2 SERIES QSC 2000 watt clean power bet that sounds killer, Ive never owned any Ashdown gear ive been playing ampeg right out of the whom im 58 tried going Superbassmen once it wasnt pretty. so i dont see ashdown in my future reguardless which one sonds better,

Actually there aren't any at all... it says there are NO reviews posted yet... and thats part of the problem...

I keep hearing great things about the Ashdown, but no one is posting any actual reviews or comments or videos.

In fact it seems to be so great, that Sweetwater is currently Sold Out of them and has a Back Order while waiting on new stock to come in; while they're almost never sold out on the Ampeg, which implies no one (or not enough) is buying it.

The Ashdown looks a bit large and overpriced, compared with their ultra-light combos. They say the head version isn't Class D... Fine. I may consider it for modularity, but never for the Class AB transformer.
The switchable Drive on the Ashdown looks tempting. I know John Entwistle Himself used to endorse Ashdown, but He used a SansAmp for overdrive, so I wonder if a stock Ashdown rig would replicate His tone.

The bundled rig doesn’t have any. Look at the head/cab only. There are two and both negative.

The ‘Peg micro rig has been very popular overall. There are plenty of satisfied owners on these pages alone. I owned it my any years ago, and though I wanted more bass out of it back then, I’d love to have it back for studio work.

The Ampeg I'll agree is awesome, only issues I've ever heard about it have to do with the fan on the back of the head sometimes being too noisy.

That is true. The fan on mine was noisy until I began playing; then I couldn’t hear it. I must admit I never used it in a studio situation and I think that’s where the majority come from. Still, I’d love to have mine back. It was traded for a new PF-800. My son now owns that.

I think I found out why those Sweetwater reviews aren't great.
Most electric devices that have an AC Power Input, have a little red voltage switch on the back to switch between USA or EU&UK voltage.

A great example of an Amp that has this switch, is the Trace Elliot Elf 1x10 Combo.

The Ashdown Studio MiniRig 210; does NOT have one of these switches on it, and to be fair most amps don't; they're defaulted to a specific voltage input.

On Sweetwater, there are three pics of the backside of the Ashdown...

One clearly shows its got a sticker on the back declaring its been defaulted to USA 115 volts.
But the next pic, has a different sticker on it.. shows its a UK 240 voltage sticker... though its not as clear as the USA one.
Then there is a third closer pic that also shows the USA sticker very up close and clear.

Makes me wonder if Sweetwater got a stock of both, and unknowingly shipped out UK/EU voltage models to US buyers...

Interestingly the pic of this same amp on Guitar Centers website also shows the same UK 240 volts sticker, again still not clear and very pixelated but you can clearly make out that it says 240V.

If someone in the US, bought this amp and its set for UK 240, and they plug it in and try to use it?

Its DOA.
